Find peace of mind in the fragrance of books
Books, within their pages, can traverse time and space, encompassing the past and present. Regular reading can bring new knowledge, dispel ignorance, cultivate virtue, and nourish the soul.
I've always loved reading, cherishing the feeling of the fragrance of a book. One quote that deeply impressed me was: "Reading is the closest distance to God; it makes our hearts clear and beautiful." The purity and peace of the soul are cleansed between the lines of a book, bringing a sense of clarity.
A friend who loves reading says that immersed in the fragrance of books, one becomes a fish in water, a butterfly in a sea of flowers; the whole world is yours, nothing can stop you from traversing thousands of miles, conquering the world of words. Wandering in the fragrance of books, you'll find every word so lively and charming, every sentence shining with a unique brilliance, allowing you to freely gather and obtain the most beautiful fragrance.
The breadth of your vision determines the distance you can see; the size of your heart determines the size of the world you can encompass. The ancients summarized, "Climbing high and beckoning, one's arm is not lengthened, yet one's vision extends far; shouting with the wind, one's voice is not louder, yet one's voice is heard clearly." Reading is like standing on a high mountain, the swift wind whispering in one's ear, helping me see more distant scenery.
"Books are like medicine; good reading can cure ignorance." This medicine of books is almost omnipotent; it can not only cure ignorance but also heal wounds, nourish the body and mind. If you can appreciate and enjoy the captivating aroma of books, then even if you experience many hardships and encounter many misfortunes, you will find a place of refuge in the fragrance of books, a place to soothe a broken heart, and thus regain ease and happiness.
The Qing Dynasty poem "Thoughts on Reading" states, "The human heart is like a good seedling; it grows when nurtured. Seedlings are watered with spring water, and the heart is nourished with reason and righteousness. A day without reading leaves the mind without good thoughts. A month without reading dulls the senses." This passage has become my motto. The changes of time may be silent, but the nourishment of the soul by the fragrance of books will eventually reveal itself. It was through constantly reading extensively that I felt "the boundless distance and countless people are all connected to me," and I came to understand the secret of self-cultivation: "not to hold grudges, not to repeat mistakes." Even in moments of loss, despair, or complete disorientation, I could see that "ordinariness is the only answer."
The ancients said, "Reading in youth is like peeking at the moon through a crack; reading in middle age is like gazing at the moon in the courtyard; reading in old age is like playing with the moon on a platform. The depth of understanding depends on the depth of experience." In middle age, I deeply understand this truth. Revisiting books I've read before, like ruminating, brings a unique flavor to my heart. Now, I read without any utilitarian purpose, purely out of love. Tao Yuanming, when reading, "would be so delighted that he forgot to eat," and I also understand this beauty…
The fragrance of books is sweet, and life is like a flower. Nourishing and soothing the soul with the fragrance of books makes life as long and enduring as a poem.
