Reading the Moon at Yanghu
Yanghu, a place name with a touch of poetry! But it's not entirely a lake; it's an urban wetland park in Changsha.
Yanghu has many beauties, but its most enchanting is undoubtedly its moonlit lake.
Every night, hikers flock to Yanghu, immersing themselves in tranquility and serenity, especially on moonlit nights. It feels like being immersed in milk, soothing and refreshing.
Entering from Yanghu Avenue and stepping onto Crescent Bridge, the first thing that greets you is the moon reflected in the lake! In the darkness, the lake's surface obscures the distance, only the mirror-like moon winks at you. Occasionally, a gentle breeze ripples the water, making you feel as if you're standing before Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa—a scene of ethereal elegance.
Hiking under the moon, only the fresh lake breeze and your own breath remain; there are no external disturbances, and the moon accompanies you in silence. On the tree-lined path, she follows you, hiding in the swaying shadows, sprinkling you with dappled sunlight; the wind rustles the leaves, transforming the dappled light into a kaleidoscope of colors, like countless tiny sprites fluttering about! On the willow-lined bank and lotus-covered embankment, she suddenly emerges from the lake, surprising you as if to greet you, her hazy smile rippling and swirling on the shimmering surface.
When you're tired, sit on a wooden bench on the waterfront platform for a rest; the moon, too, lies quietly in the water, gazing back at you, making you reluctant to leave. In the distance, the streetlights and park lights of Yanghu Avenue vie for attention, weaving into waterfalls of light that silently meander across the lake's surface, making the moon in the water appear even more pristine and pure.
Gazing at the moon in the lake often evokes memories. Sitting on the wooden bench by the lake, I suddenly remembered that this was the place where Yao and I rested before we parted ways. A year ago, on this same night, in this same season, under this same moon, Yao told me she had received her visa to study in the UK and booked her plane tickets. She said, "Let's take a picture here with the moon—together!"
A week after Yao left, I received a photo on WeChat from across the ocean, with the caption: "I dreamt of the moon over Yanghu again last night…it seemed to be right in front of my house!"
Yes, the moon over Yanghu, the moon of my hometown!
The moon over Yanghu, the moon in my heart…
