The secret that was never spoken

Looking back on your school days, do you have any regrets?

Before meeting him, I was very unruly and never a good student…

I met him in the classroom of my first year of high school. My friend and I were the last to arrive. The teacher looked at us sternly for a long time before saying, “Come in! Next time you’re late, go stand at the back.” Because we were late, my friend and I could only sit in the back, and he happened to sit in front of me. That day was the first day of school, and also the first day I truly met him! It’s been so long that I can’t remember what happened. I only remember him turning around and saying something to me, then giving me a very sunny smile! After that, that smile would appear in my mind every now and then. My attention was always on him, and then all sorts of images would appear in my mind. Time flies

, and in the blink of an eye, it was the school’s annual sports meet. In previous years, I would sneak out of school to play during the sports meet, but this year, I inexplicably signed up for an event because I knew he would also be participating.

A few days later, the sports meet was held as scheduled. The gymnastics competition started, followed by various other events. He unsurprisingly won first place in all the events he had signed up for, and I did just as well, also winning first place. Having never participated in such activities before, this was quite a surprise. Afterwards, the school was honored to invite me to join the school team, and because of him, I readily agreed.

After that, the teachers went back to their intense training mode, and we spent our days doing nothing but exercises and attending classes. Perhaps it was this fulfilling and simple life that made time seem to drag during our school days, but now that it's over, we deeply miss it.

In the blink of an eye, the second semester of high school began. While other students did nothing but study, we had to work even harder. We had to get up earlier than them for training, attend classes with them during the day, and continue training in the afternoon. Although it was tough, I was also very happy because I could spend every day with him. Even though we didn't talk much, I was still very happy.

Finally, we went to participate in the competition. You accidentally fell during the finals, which affected your performance in the subsequent matches. Your teammates comforted you, telling you to relax and leave the rest to us! In the end, our team returned to school as the second-place team in the city. Not long after returning to school, my father asked me to transfer schools because I had performed well in the city competition and he felt I had potential. He wanted me to go to another high school. No one could change my father's decision, and I was no exception. After arguing with him, he still forced me to transfer to another school.

On the day I left, everyone on the school team, several of my childhood friends, and him came to see me off. It was then that I realized how many people cared about me. Looking at them, I realized that we weren't allowed to bring cell phones back then, so I wrote down everyone's contact information in a notebook, including his.

After leaving that place and going to the new school, I couldn't adapt to the people there. Without him, I became less enthusiastic about training. I started learning to draw because it was something I really enjoyed. At first, I would go back every now and then, but later, because of my studies, I didn't have time to go anymore. Until we graduated high school, I went back to the school where they were and attended their graduation ceremony. That day, I brought my phone and reconnected with all their contact information.

But that night, the words I had prepared for so long remained unspoken, because I saw my closest friend confess to him before me, and he agreed. That summer, my friend would always ask him to hang out, and she would take me along. We went to many places that were previously just me and my friend, but now he was there too.

That summer was the last time I spent with him!

Afterwards, we went to the universities we wanted to attend, according to our own university applications, and made new friends. But I still often heard various rumors about him. Some said he and my friend broke up, then some said he had a girlfriend again…

After that, we gradually lost contact, and I would only occasionally think of that sunny face! As for saying "I like you," I never said it out loud…
