Don't forget to please yourself

That day, my best friend and I were watching a popular TV series. The female lead in the show was trying to please her narrow-minded boss for work. After watching, my friend shook her head and said, "The most tiring thing in the world is trying to please others." I nodded in agreement. In our work and life, we always rack our brains to take care of this person and please that person, but we forget to please ourselves.

One of my friends, A-Luo, majored in Chinese Language and Literature in college, but she used her spare time to teach herself English. While other classmates were scrambling to find jobs after graduation, she had already found a well-paying translation job.

Her classmates were all amazed when they talked about it, saying, "Who can compare to A-Luo? She studied English so hard in college, how could she not find a good job?" After hearing this, A'luo laughed so hard she bent over, saying, "I wasn't looking for a job; I was just heartbroken at the time, so I wanted to find something that could please myself and prove myself. Fortunately, I learned to please myself instead of trying to please the other person, and I stopped belittling myself. We were just not compatible."

My colleague Yueyue is also a woman who likes to please herself. She's almost forty, and she's even enrolled in a cooking class. I found it strange; people her age can't be without work and have many things to take care of in life, so how could she have the leisure to learn to cook? Yueyue told me, "If I can cook, when I'm tired or unhappy, I can make a delicious meal to please myself. Isn't that great?"

Influenced by these two friends, I also started doing things I enjoy to please myself. I like to draw, so I draw one every day. Whether it's good or bad, at least my heart is at peace while I'm drawing. I like to do crafts, so I set aside a day on the weekend to focus on making hair accessories, dolls... Gradually, I found that my focus increased, I had fewer things on my mind, and I smiled more often. My husband jokingly asked me, "Why are you so energetic lately? Do you have some grand plan to achieve?" I smiled. What grand plan? I'm just using this to comfort myself when I'm stressed, trying to ignore the unhappy things.

Pleasing yourself is like a short rest during a long journey. Open your heart, accept yourself, know why you came into this world and where you're going, and when you stand up to continue the marathon of life, you won't lose your way and you'll have more strength.
